I have a 94 heritage, last time i was riding it just started cutting out real bad and wouldnt idle. sounded like it was running on 1 cylinder... well when i got home tore apart the carb thinking something was cought in a jet, so i went ahead and rebuilt it... and put a new set of spark plugs in.. now it will fire up and run great for a few min then i shut it off and restart and the same issues as before. i pull the plugs and they are black. So i clean them and restart and runs great... what would cause this?
im headed for the redwood run in a few days and need to fix this thing. any help would be great!
With the bike running, spray WD-40 where the intake manifold mates to the cylinder. You should have a noticable increase in rpm. I would say you have leaking manifold gaskets.
I just did a compression check, i have 230lbs in the front cyl and 180lbs in the rear, is that a big enough difference to cause this?
maybe, but the 230 sounds kinda high.... what's your compression?
sounds like fuel fouling the plugs to me. what size of jets do you have in it?
make damn sure you got everything in the carb installed correctly, the slide diaphram and especially the needle jet, it easily gets installed upside-down and can cause a very rich condition.
