I have a 95" motor with Keith Black Pistons, SE 72cc heads, S&S 510G cams,SE ignition, V&H big shot staggereds with baffles in, and a reworked Harley carb. (42 Kehein). This has only been installed for about 4 months. It did run excellent. I've been clocked at 132mph.
Coming home yesterday, I lost all power. I went out for a short hop and did not even go WOT. Normal cruising, about 65mph, it felt like the front cylinder let loose. I think I Fouled a plug, but I'm not sure if it caused any further damage. The front plug was shiny black, not wet or chalky. The rear was deep red/brown on one half to black on the other. Kind of half and half. The bike will start up still, but after a few seconds, it starts sounding rough. I only tried hat once.
I tried the compression and it's around 90psi. on both. Is there anything else I should look???
You need compression, fuel/air, and spark. Sounds like you verified two out of three. My guess is fuel/air. Is the bike carbed or injected? If injected, you probably have a fouled injector.
Good luck!
New tester shows 15psi front cylinder and 140 rear. As I was removing the pushrod cover, I noticed the pushrod was loose. I have Andrews EZ adjustables. The lock nut had come loose and spun the shaft up inside the tube. I then found the tappet was messed up. The metal wire that holds the guts in the tappet had almost come out. The wire was sticking up, but still holding everything in.
I installed the new tappet and started adjusting the pushrod and found that on the second flat while tightening, the rod went a little cockeyed. I then found that the rod was broken right at the point where the lock nut was set.
The intake valve was stuck closed, not allowing any fuel to enter the cylinder, thus running on one cylinder.
