The general rule is anything more than 3 turns out to get the engine running properly, go up a size on the slow jet.
The 46 should be plenty big enough. You might try shimming the needle with 1 or 2 (#4Brass washers). This will jack the needle up outta the hole, letting in more fuel on the low speed circuit.
FWIW my 883 is jetted 45slow, stockhigh, with 2 #4washers under the needle, about 2.5 turns out on the idle mix screw.
