Vibration after installing new front motor mount on 2005 Electra Glide Classic
Had bike serviced at around 24,000 miles and dealer found front motor mount broken. After replacing it I now have a bad vibration. The dealer claims to know about the increase in vibration from the new stiffer motor mount and said it would get better after 500 to a 1000 miles. Well it has been 2500 miles and if anything it is worse. Have had it checked twice at dealer and they say nothing is wrong and I'll just get use to it. Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to fix this problem. It is really annoying and causes the whole bike to vibrate when sitting at stop lights or at idle speed. Thanks
The new front motor mount is made of stiffer material and you might notice a slight bit more vibration but it should not be excessive in alot of cases my own being one of them the front mount was put in upsidedown the hourglass shape on the mount should be up. If you still have excessive vibration then it could be that you need to do a motor alignment. It has been found that in cases were motor mount is installed properly that if engine alignment is done properly that should get rid of any excessive vibration
The vibration should have bottomed out after 2500 miles but I have heard some say it takes 5000 miles. The only way you will know if the mount is properly installed is to check it yourself. Get the service manual and check to see if it was intalled upside down, very common mistake, even by the dealer techs. Check the torque, may not be torqued to spec. Loosen to finger tight, start the engine and let it find its own "center", torque to spec.
If none of the above works, replace with the Buell front motor mount, PN L0501.2, less than $50. Or, replace with Glide Pro mount; more expensive at $89 but, from what I read, those that have installed them are very happy.
