OK guys this is an age old problem , probably discussed over and over , but here goes my story . I have an 06 Road King carburated , I lived in NY when I bought it in Sept. 06 . I put on screaming eagle exhaust , stage one air intake and rejet using yost power tube . That is all the engine mods I have . Bike always ran fine , Moved ti NC 2 yrs ago and bike still runs fine . I went out to Sturgis this year and while I was there bike started to pop more than usual , chalked it up to climate and elevation. Since I have been back to NC it seems to have gotten worse . Any input would be appreciated before I start wrenching . Oh yea I just put new plugs and no difference .
I had that happen to me, turns out I nut came off one of the exhaust studs, new nut and popping gone, it was weird all of a sudden the popping came on, luckly easy fix. Good luck
Leno I'm with wurk truk on this one. most likely a leak in the exhaust somewhere. Check where he said, at heads & clamps. had a similar "issue" w/ my fxd several years back - shootin' fire outta the pipe. talked to a seasoned wrench and he had a "check" where by you'd say something on the area where the head pipe leaves the jug w/ it warmed up and runnin' at idle. can't remember the mixes and i been tryin' get hold of him all day... one made the engine idle slowdown, the other made it speed up. i think it was soapy water and wd40, respectively. wouldn't recommend tryin' this "test" til i can confirm the mix(es). i will tell ya this much, in my case it wasn't a leaky exhaust. mine was only doing the weasel thang (popping on decel) when i was on the throttle hard and dropped off quick, Dx = excess fuel in the carb - gotta go somewhere! watch em goin into turns 1 & 3 next week at M-ville, fire outta the pipe EVERY time. hard on the throttle in the straight then off quick (& hard on the brake) goin into the turn.
Thanks I have checked all exhaust connections , and all seem fine. I changed the air filter ( K&N ) old one was pretty dirty and rubber was broken down where filter met with backing plate . Runs quite a bit better now , less popping . Maybe time for a new exhaust system . I'm thinking BUB tru duals . Gotta save some dough first!
Cool deal Lenno. iIhave actually gotten to where I LIKE the popping!! I can make my dyna do it at will!! There's a tennis court in the nearby town where the "yuppies" park their beemers, lexis', etc. and I go by there in the summer sometimes with the goal of settin' off their car alarms!! Mean, I know but WTH. I have made three passes just to make sure I didn't leave anybody out!!

Oh I almost forgot. I have no personal experience w/ BUB exhaust but have heard only good things... I did just replace my Samson slip ons with V & H. premature failure, IMO, w/ the Samsons (and the company would NOT stand behind 'em) Love the sound of the V & H's. Have heard good reports on D & D's and my dealership service mgr. speaks well of Rush's as well.
