I have a 2006 Heritage Classic with EFI with 1900 miles on it. I have made no performance changes to the bike, just cosmetic and an upgraded seat. The bike always ran great with zero complaints. I washed it yesterday with a hose, Mr. Clean system and then I dried it with an electric leaf blower. This was my 4th full wash and I never had any problems. After yesterday's wash, I took it for an average city ride (stop and go) and I immediately noticed a hissing sound. I thought the vehicle ahead of me had a leaking tire or something, it was that noticeable. But, the vehicle turned and the hiss remained with me. Then, after about 5 minutes, I could feel my thighs cooking. The bike was hotter then I can ever remember. The bike was running just fine but I stopped and gave it a look-see. Everything looked good but it was very, very hot. I ran it for another 15 minutes and it continued to drive just fine but hot as hell and hissing like a snake. I'm guessing that I might have done something while drying it. I can't give you an exact location of the hissing noise as I could only hear it while under power. And, the windshield seems to direct all of the engine noise to the driver. Any thoughts on what might have happened? Thanks in advance for your replies.
Man, that one is a difficult question to answer. I wash my Ultra Classic frequently because it sits outside all of the time.
I can't imagine where the water may be accumulating on your bike. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be that water may have accumulated behind the heat shields on the exhaust pipes. It's possible I guess that the leaf blower may have blown more water behind the heat shield than normally and when it got up to temperature it caused the water to boil.
Maibe damaged ( punctured) your AirCleaner ? makes it run hotter ( leaner) and gives a lot of extar noise, also water in an air cleaner gives strange noises....
