I got a 92 FXRS and I need to change my 17 years old stock carb (which is used and discontinued).
So I looked and realised that there's CV Keihin, S&S super E and Mikuni HSR42 carbs that would give me a nice performance upgrade (and look upgrade too )
S&S uses a buterfly door and Mikuni uses a slide door... Keihin seems to have better CV... I tend to think that mikuni is better as for respond time but doesn't want a overkilling setup for my bike either so that is why I need some help!
Here's what I want: a crisp low/midrange response and better overall performance without overkilling my stock 80"...
My setup is currently very basic: I got a 80" with everything stock except 50/50 Harley pipes and upgraded spark plug cables.
So should I go with:
Mikuni HSR42 total Kit
S&S super E complete kit
Keinhin CV kit
Or should I mix one of these carbs with a upgraded air filter? (like a kuryakyn hypercharger which by the look I like a lot)
What would you guys think to be the best for my pretty much stock setup?

S&S or mikuni, the mikuni will give a little better throttle response & has alot more tuning circuts that the S&S,and is more complicated to tune.S&S is a snap.even the mikuni isnt a real big deal to tune, just takes a little more time, but either would be a fine choice

I got another question regarding this upgrade; since the throttle response should definitly be higher (and more torque), would it be necessary to upgrade other parts to prevent any problem?
My vote would be for the mikuni, I run a hsr42 and it was a runner straight out the box, was already running a ness big sucker and a thunderheader, no popping, coughing, seemed like my bike pulled harder also , upgraded from the stock cv carb.
The CV carbs are very good, easy to tune and all you really need until you do some serious headwork and cams, then I'd go with the Mik. It takes a lot of headwork to out flow the CV's capabilities.CV's were stock on HD Big Twins since 1990. Bigger is not always better.A bigger carb will flow more air, but on stock heads ,velocity is reduced lowering VE. You could find a good used CV a lot cheaper than a MIk or S&S. and have money left for a good freeflow breather.
A CV carb, SE or Ness Big Sucker and freeflow pipes really wake up an Evo. JMHO
