Guy I know just installed a set of cast SE103' pistons, was just running the engine in and one of the pistons has blown, looks like it went around the gudgeon pin.
No other apparent problems,no scoring on the bore, c/c is black, no signs of overheating.
Have heard that this is not totally unknown to happen, has anyone else heard of the cast pistons grenading?
we use & sell alot of 103" SE cast pistons, never had a prob.but anything can have a defect.youde have to REALLY doing something your not supost to be doing,(very high comp.,reving way too much or spraying it) to explode a cast piston(seen KB pistons do it though)

with a mild build, there no reason to use forged pistons,hi compresion, going to be standing on it,by all means forged.but i get guys call all the time wanting just a build for more power over stock, not ***** to the wall, and say should they use forged or cast,i ask why and they cant give a reason, besides they read it some place.cast pistons can be set up alot tighter, better ring life & no piston slap(besides this, ive never heard of one breaking)

I have just had a forged piston in my 113 ci Evo TP motor break off the end and go up the valve from the back into the front. No problems for 4.500 miles and than this on I-95 @ 70 mph. Figure it was some bad gas. Do not know yet.
