I am looking to convert my 883 to a 1200. In-order to figure the compression ratio, I need to find the volume of the head. Does anyone know what it is for an 02 XL? I know that the higher the compression the more power but at what point is this counter productive for a daily driver and going from 9:1 883 to 9:1 1200 or should I look at getting the 10.5:1. My other question is about KB pistons. Are they any good? They seem much cheaper than Wiseco.
Static compression isn't as important as dynamic compression (cylinder pressure). You can run a high compression motor if the cam and altitude are right. I run 10.25:1 with a 204 cam on cheap pump gas. But I live at 6,400' ASL. Cylinder pressure is only about 180. Anything over 195'ish is going to be a problem.
Go to RBR Racing's web site. They have some calculaters there that will help you out.
Unfortunatly, I can't help you with the head question.
KB Hypereutectic piston are excellent for a moderate compression motor without any power adders. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
