I've been having this weird issue in only 5th and 6th gear.
I'll be going down the highway 70mph 6th gear. I'll open the throttle wide open and I get a hesitation and then the rpm's jump way up and the 6th gear light will go off.
It does the same thing in 5th gear when I open the throttle wide also. All other gears, it just seems to pull instead of hesitating.
Back in July I had SE-204 cams along with a race tuner installed. It started having this problem about a month ago. Any ideas? I'm stumped.
This could be caused by the new (in 08) Throttle By Wire the MOCO switched to. My 08 pretty much does the same thing. I'm not a wrench, so take this with a grain of salt...
sounds like your clutch may be slipping. the added torque can cause that.
Mine did the same thing, so I switched my clutch spring to the SE heavy-duty version and haven't had any slippage problems since. the down-side is you lose that easy clutch pull...

This could be the culprit and I also changed to the Screamin' Eagle clutch and no longer have the issue...

Yup, sounds like clutch slip. Whenever the rpms are wrong for what the speed sensor is showing in 6th, the light will go out. Problem many have with sprocket changes. 5th and 6th will placed the most load on the clutch and problems usually show up there first.
