Lean AFR or hole in exhaust. Are your spark plugs bright white? If you cut out buffles you decreased back pressure making AFR leaner.

the plugs look good so i'm thinking maybe a leak somewhere. I've been running baffle-less for 80,000 miles now and have never messed with carb except when i first went to the stage one. 95" w/HC pistons, 204 cam, thunderject carb kit, hypercharge AC.

Bad valve seals cannot change AFR.

Check and see if you have a head gasket leak, mine did the same thing as the gasket was going out.

Like all the folks said, check the exhaust seals first, and if you get some baffles back in there, you'll probably pick up some torque as well.
