adjustable pushrods
hey all just got done doing the top end on my 84 flht i think i screwed up on adjusting the pushrods sounds like valves are always open . any one got simple easy instructions on how to do this i have the andrews chrome moly ones and they gave some really crappy instructions !!!!!
Rotate engine until the tappet is on the heel of the cam lobe. Adjust pushrod just enough to eliminate any up/down play between the lifter and rocker arm. Ok, now with stock hydraulic lifters you want to collapse the plunger .125" and with stock harley pushrods (32 tpi) that will be 4 turns (24 flats) down. You will have to determine if your andrews pushrods are a different tpi. Either in the instructions or count how many threads in an inch. Then it's just simple math to figure out how many turns equal .125". If your pushrods are say 28 tpi it would be .125 x 28 = 3.5 turns. Now if your lifters are aftermarket they may require a different plunger depth. You will have to determine this in their instructions. After you have collapsed the lifter where you want it wait until you can spin the pushrod with your fingers before rotating the engine for the next one(about 5-10 minutes). If the lifters are dry you won't have to wait. Do all 4 like this and make sure your oil pump is primed after the re-build and all should be good to go. Good luck.
EDIT: I looked at the andrews instructions and they say to turn down 3.5-4 turns so they must be 32 tpi also. What part of their instructions don't you understand.
