Default which pipes??

im sure this has been asked many times befire but im looking into getting pipes for my 06 softail deluxe and im a loud noisy you know what. i want something people hear for 2 minutes before they even see me. being new to Harleys i dont know much about anything. ask me pipes for a sport bike and i can tell you. but never mind that. my buddy told me to take the baffles off and that will be loud and good until i get pipes. so i though i would ask the people who have experienced different sounds combined with performance. i want something LOUD lol. any help will be greatly appreciated.

VANCE AND HINES SHORT SHOTS OR RINEHARTS WILL BE LOUD. PYTHONS ARE ALSO LOUD. TAKING BAFFLES OUT WILL HURT THE PERFORMANCE.

Short shots or big shots from vance and hines with out baffels. With out baffels = HORSEPOWER on the top end. Now TOURQUE is a another story.

Well, if you really want the loud sound and don't give a crap about your neighbors, go for V&H Big Radius. Those are loud pipes. I had the V&H Big Shot Longs put on mine. Love the sound and performance with them.

Open pipes will destroy your performance. Maybe people will hear you coming 2 miles away, but they'll most likely be long gone by the time to get there with a poorly running bike.

V&H Pro-Pipe or Thunderheader perform the best and are plenty loud. Remember, loud does NOT equal fast! You can be loud and obnoxious, but don't expect the bike to run well. The V&H Straight Shots are good for sound and performance, too (WITH the baffles left in). Any of their other pipes will cause you to lose low end and midrange torque. Horsepower is basically a worthless number on a Harley unless you are racing it regularly at high engine speeds. What you really need is TORQUE, and in the rpm range that you'll use the most (1500-4500). Also, as a general rule, the shorter your pipes are, the worse the bike will run on the street.

Uhh... I think ya got that backwards, unless you are talking about the stock HD mufflers. Removing the baffles will ruin your low and mid range torque (passing power). I've done hundreds of tests with several exhaust configurations and that is one thing that I noticed to be constant. Open pipes only perform well for above 4500 rpm. When you pass someone, you are usually starting at around 2500-3000 rpm. In order for it to pull strong with open pipes, you will have to downshift to get the revs up into the higher torque range. I can pass someone, starting at 70 mph/2900 rpm in fifth gear without downshifting, and I'll be doing 100 before I know it. When I tried open drags, it acceled like a dog until I shifted down to fourth gear.

i have a 97 Lowrider with Vance and Hines Big Shot Staggards. They are very loud but its a much nicer sound in my opinion than the stock pipes that were on it. They also look great because they give the bike a longer look and I can notice a difference in overall power. I also replaced the stock air filter with a K&N.

Yes, those are nice looking pipes. And the length will help keep you from losing too much low and mid range torque. Longer pipes usually perform better then shorties.
