My dad has a 2007 UC and it is hard to start. It sounds like the starter and ring gear are not in sync. It has a kick back to the starter when trying to start. Does it almost everytime. Dealer replaced ring gear and starter and did not help it. Anyone heard of anything like this. Any suggestions on what to try or replace. Bike has mufflers off of an 2002 UC and K&N A/C. Also has SERT but that was added to try to correct the problem as well. Different dealer said the tuner would correct the problem but it didn't.
There are a couple of download that were issued by HD and dealers were informed to load them into the bikes. But in your case, you have the SERT so that should not be an issue, still sounds ,like the tune is off.
One other thing to check, battery condition is key to these bikes start smoothly and not kicking back. Have you replaced the battery?
Mine did that. After going thru a lot of things from timing to batteries, turned out to be too much cranking fuel. Check that out.
Also, unless you did the download your self, which you can with a SERT, the dealer might not have put in the right appropriate program for the bike.
Check this out.
