Default --Looking for info on head/cylinder removal/replacement on a evo

hello all. i guess to keep this simple ill get right to the point. 1 of my 3 harleys is a 96 fxstsb "badboy" ive had some faint ticking noise coming from it for about a year. it has turned to a very faint knock recently. last year i took the pushrods out and replaced the tappets. new timpken cam bearing. made sure cam is in good shape. adjusted pushrods multiple times. had a proffesional shop owner check over what i had done and couldnt find the noise. i (we) have came to the conclusion that the noise is in the "head" somewhere. it does have rivera taper-lite pushrods and a vthunder 3010 cam. my father that always tought me all my harley knowledge and was my "go to guy" passed away last year. im wanting to pull the heads now and take them to a shop to have them checked/gone through. was wondering if anyone here could tell me a good source for a step-by-step video/book that will help me through the tear down and replacement of my evo top end as i learn. thanks guys!

Default R & R Evo Heads

The factory service manual is your best bet. Unbolt the tank, upper motor mount, pull carb from rubber intake seal, unbolt intake manifold from heads, take upper covers off, then middle section, and rocker arms. After that, there's nothing else in the heads to make noise. If you do pull the heads, you will need a 12 point 1/2" socket for the head bolts. My 95 Dyna has 118,716 miles on it and it makes all kinds of noise, sounds like it's in the heads. I've had them off twice over the years and all seems good. Good luck to you.
