'02 Fatboy carbed. Stock 88 motor, upgraded the exhaust to V&H Big Radius 2-1, upgraded the intake to A/N Big Sucker, and re-jetted the carb per the manufacturers recommendation.
Did this beginning of last season and upgrades all worked perfect for about 2000 miles - bike ran and sounded great!!
Just the last couple of weeks the bike has started backfiring, especially on downshift but sometimes even at steady throttle. Won't idle without some choke to it - thinking it's running lean... but why?!!?
Tonight it would barely keep running.
Bike only has approx. 7000 miles on it.
Thoughts / recommendations appreciated !!
thanks in advance,
Rando
Sounds like exhaust leak from your description. Just go ahead and replace the gaskets, they are only a few bucks each.
The way I test is an incense stick because it will put off smoke. Light the stick and put it in the proximity of the exhaust port, watch the smoke from the stick, any leak will move the smoke.
It sounds to me like you have an intake leak. For the price of the 3 intake seals, you should replace them any way. Replace the exhaust gaskets also. It should not cost you more than $20.00 or so. Good luck, TJ
