its definatly the cylander head. occasionally i can feel a puff of air coming from the side of the cylander when first starting the bike.
May wish to consider and confirm leak.
The rocker covers(very top portion of motor) are a 3 piece set-up.
The rocker cover gasket set(rubber coated metal) is about $50 at dealer for the whole set.
This would be a common leak point and can be pin pointed to an oil drip and sometimes a recurring "low phish" noise.
I may have missed mention of mileage but by age alone it would be very common for rocker cover gaskets. Again the rocker cover would be more common than head gasket and much easier to address.

Raising the tank an inch or so and removing the front motor mount increases access.
