the se cases aren't going to give you any more surface area to prevent weeping of the cylinders. they come with a 4.060 bore and will have to be bored to go 4.250 in this respect, no difference from the stock cases.

WOW this is great!

On a stock case how much needs to be taken off to accomodate a 124 CI cylinder?

On the new case mentioned how much needs to be taken off to accomodate a 124 CI cylinder

Who can tell me how much surface space I actualley need to keep the cylinders from weeping?

If I use the stock cases, and bore them how much flat surface space will be left?

If I use the new cases mentioned and not have them bored, how much flat surface space will be left? If I need to bore the new case more, how much will it need to be bored and then how much space will be left to mount the gaskets.

I think with the use of O Ring gaskets and Flat Gaskets in addtion to crank and head relief valves, the risk of seepage is small.

Thanks for the info Wurk. I'll take the suggestion and run with it..

The OEM cases are absolutely 100% fine for any 4 1/8" bore cylinder application, Axtell, or S&S.
Can't even tell you how many we have bored. No problems whatsoever.
4.250"(4 1/4) is something different, as they can weep.

Scott,

Will the new cases Mentor mentioned handle a 4.250"(4 1/4) bore without the possibility of having the cylinders weep or having the case expierence a stress fracture?

If not, I need a larger case, one that is bare as I have all the guts on order and or paid for, a case withmore meat. Any recommendations?

I know about S&S R&R and Delkron, I am not enthused about paying another $2000. I'll spend it but only if I have too.

This issue is causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up and raise serious doubts it's starting to kind of suck.

BD,
Have not had any experience with those crankcases yet.
If they are like the material used in an S&S case, then then they would be manufactured from 356-T6 aluminum. Very high tensile cast aluminum, almost like that of extruded bar.

Rob,
How has your bike been running, now, after you have had a "proper" tune put on it, from those fellows in Maine, vs the "Keystone Shuffle"????

I could be wrong, but the cases Mentor mentioned are the same standard cases that come on the 96ci motor, only they come already bored to accept the 120ci bore(I think it's 4.060???).Bad, I'm not trying to tell you what to do ,but the 4.250 bore is a costly bore. It's either purchase new cases($2,000), or configure your 124 different.I would spend the $2000 differently if I was you.I still don't understand why your fixed on that bore. What are you going to do for the intake??? Are you going with the 58mm TBW, or you going to wait for the new 62mm TBW from SE???
