Need some more advice from you guys who always seem to have all the answers...Have a 2010 SG with a 96". It only has 600 miles and I have a D&D Fatcat, SERT and SE air cleaner waiting to be installed at my 1k service. I would like to increase the low end torque as well as make it sound a little better but I'm not ready to dump a couple thousand more to build a 103". Would I be wasting money if I only had them put in SE 255's and a different head gasket to increase compression? Also looking for any alternative suggestions to accomplish my goal without voiding my warranty or bank account. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I know that they can only deny warranty for problems directly related to the aftermarket parts, but I'm sure that all problems I encounter will somehow be directly related to those aftermarket parts once I start replacing/modifying internal parts (at least according to Harley).

I think you'd be ok with a SE255 bolt in cam as these are used in their street legal stage II 103" kits and possibly a SE204. Your dealer would likely honor his work but who knows about other dealers. Once you use other mfr parts and change compression it probably just comes down to your dealer...
I have spoken with a couple of guys from the service dept at my dealer (which actually has a pretty good reputation). They advised that I should wait until I'm ready to do a full 103" build before adding cams. I have two main issues with this:
1) The obvious; financial. Is a 103" a diminishing return on my investment for what I'm trying to accomplish?
2) I have had crotch rockets and I'm not looking for another one. I'm older and wiser now, not looking to go from A to B at 150 mph. However, I do want to have enough torque to pass and accelerate into traffic with a passenger and luggage. So I don't want to go through the time and expense of building a 103" when a set of cams may be the final touch needed for my desired outcome of low end torque and nice sound.
So, is there anyone out there who has done a cam upgrade on a stock 96" with exhaust, SERT and high flow A/C that can give me an opinion?
A cam only upgrade is not a bad investment. So long as the cams you choose will work if/when you upgrad to a 103". If you choose the wrong cams, and have to re-cam it later, then it's a bad investment.
I am in a similar position.
I've owned Harleys for years and my expectations of performance are influenced by that.
My prime consideration is protecting the warranty. In years past, H-D has refused claims for lower end problems because of changes to intake/exhaust tract---which should have had nothing to do with it, but...
And no dealer shopping as the VIN is entered for each service and non-approved changes are noted.
H-D has their "green light" icons in the parts book- which shows the parts which will not void the warranty
I'm going to leave mine pretty much as is, until the warranty is gone.
Then it'll be cams and some other minor changes, I want to preserve reliability and fuel range.
Comp ratio I will think about, the continuing and worsening quaility problems with pump gas...
And as in years past, I'll have to make sure I have the room/time to merge or pass.
make sure you are doing all this is the proper rpm range...3500 ~4500 gives a pretty good pull when you need to get through.
......................and if warranty void is in question, with the use of non-OE pieces/parts/products, then the local dealer may really want to throughly look at the Magusson-Moss Warranty Act, that was passed into law, in 1975.
