Have an '09 Road King that is running stock. Run's great. I have a set of Rineharts. My intent is to go the exhaust, air cleaner and a Race Tuner dyna tune. My tuner is 120 miles North. I'd like to install the pipes only, ride up, and have him do the air cleaner and R.T. tune. Could this be bad for the bike? I'm told by many that you can add pipes only and ride around forever, the system can adjust for that?
that is correct. you can actually do one or the other without any tuner modifications. The ECM will auto-adjust (understandably only to a certain point) to the changing of the pipes or the air-cleaner but will not do an adequate job of adjusting for both hence the need for a stage 1 download or RT
UltraNutz has you covered. HD's run lean/hot from factory, but pipe swap doesn't affect enough to cause damage & ECM will adjust. Good luck w/upgrades - it will feel like a new ride.

Reason: sp
A bud has an 09 SG. All he did was change to Rinehart exhaust on delivery. Runs fine.
Has just turned 20,000 miles. After he returned from Sturgis the inlet of the right muffler can was yellow but he will not do any other mods. He likes it that way so you will be fine riding it to your tuner.
