Default Inner bearing replacement problem

While I am changing to a hydraulic cam plate I pulled the inner bearings. I installed the new bearrings with a bearing press tool I bought from Georges Garage. The lettering on the bearings is on the right side so you can see it when installed. But the front bearings needle rollers won't turn or move when twist your finger in the bearing. The rear one does. I am sure that's no good. So I just bought another bearing and the same thing. Any suggestions?

Did you check the original bearing to see if those rollers were moving? Were the rollers on the new bearing moving before you installed them into the case bore? I know, stupid questions, right, but helpful to know. Are you using assembly lube to lubricate the bearign cage and bore?

Sounds like the bearing cage is getting tweaked on installation. Check the bearing bore for any casting flashing or anything else that might kick the bearing out of alignment.

If you have an old cam, try to install the offending bearing using the cam and bumping it in. Stop occassionally and check the rollers to make sure they aren't locked up.

Or, install again with the tool but stop and check rollers during the installation.

Take a really good look with a flashlight first then use your fingers to check. Do not push anything into the inner case.
Human finger can tell the difference to .001 while feeling around.
If all OK. What I do is freeze the bearing, in its wrapper overnight. First I coat with Syntethic marine grease. (Have some around). Green from Auto Zone.
then it just goes in easy, a few easy tapps with the driver. Bottomes on the small lip there.

Something I just though about. Two things.
Torrenton Bearing?

Are you working in a unheated garage up north? Its better to have the engine cases room temp. Aluminum will shrink when cold, then freezing the bearings won't help.

I did the press a little check the bearing then press a little more it's in now and the bearings a rolling. I think I was cranking in in too fast, working now though. Thanks for all the good suggestions
