Default Top end break-in question

I just put a big bore kit and new heads on my scoot. My plan for the break-in is to keep the RPMs below 3000 for the first 100 miles and do an oil change. After that keep it below 3500 RPMs for the next 400 miles and do another oil change. Then it's wide open time. Anyone see a problem with this plan or have anything to add? I vaguely remember hearing something about keeping a constant speed, but I can't remember if it was a good thing or bad thing during the break-in period.

Google "mototune breakin" . No worries on he bottom end, just seating rings. Before you fire her up, start with a fully charged battery and spin engine, plugs out, to get the oil pump primed and a little pressure in the system. Do a couple of heat cycles, like let her run a minute at about 1700 rpms. Any major problems should show up during the heat cycles in the garage with no load on the engine; better there than under load on the road. If a carbed bike, start on the enrichener but as soon as she fires, push it in and lock the throttle at 1700 rpms. Let her cool to the touch and do another heat cycle, 1.5-2 minutes this time; let her cool to the touch and then ride.

Breakin on Shell Rotella 10W40, no synthetic; actually any coventional 10W40 will work. Rings should seat in 50 miles or less with lots of third gear pulls the 3500 and decel back down. Change oil at 50 miles and continue breakin and change oil and filter at 100 miles. Keep rpm under 3500 for the first 500 miles and under 4000 for the first 1000 miles. Change oil and fillter again at 1000 miles. If you want to run synthetic, the 1000 mile oil change is the time to change.

Do not lug the engine, try to keep rpms above 2500 when riding; use the gear box.

i was nice to my bike for like 50 miles, then i just couldnt do it any more.

I didnt try to break the sound barrier, but i was riding "normal" in my mind.

Rings, rings, rings.

Heat cycle, heat cycle, heat cycle.

The first few times running for 10 -20 sec then cool down. Heat cycle.

Air cooled cylinders and their rings will last a long time if you do---

Heat cycling.

S&S has a good read about this.
