You should get a service manual that illustrates the proper location of parts.
The short view:
Remove battery cable, remove the primary cover, remove the starter pinion gear, remove the two bolts holding the starter to the inner primary. Pull out the starter. You will need a long extension and a ball end hex socket or wiggler extension to reach the starter bolts.

You still have trash under the needle in the carb. Did you replace the needle and check the float for proper position?
