Do I have to remove the primary cover to remove the starter? It says in the OM to do so, but I have to come to find out that once in awhile they add steps that you can do without and still have the same outcome. I have on 04 EGC. It states something about a tab inside. Who has changed out their starter and how did you do it? Thanks.
Just pulling on the starter gear ( even with the ignition "Off") can engage the solonoid which will spin the starter motor and possbly eat your fingers against the clutch.
There is a 10/32 bolt that runs through the starter clutch that holds the assy. to the motor output shaft. It can only be accessed from the primary side. You cannot pull the starter off with this bolt in place.........sux. I just got my engine all back together and did not check the starter. 3 weeks later, i'm going back in........again, sux.
