So on the way to our hotel after a day in DC for Rolling Thunder,
I fill my softail's gas tank and park it at the hotel for the night. The next day when I get on it to leave, I'm leaking gas from the bottom. Took the gas cap off and fuel gushed from the tank..So did I fill it too far and from sitting in the sun till noon cause vapor lock and fuel to come out an overflow when i stood the bike up straight? I've never heard of the bike being too full before. Almost like the gas fairy stopped by and topped the tank off for me..
.....you overfilled it.
I did the same thing not too long ago.
Filled it to the brim on a cold afternoon, the next day was warm and I guess the fuel expanded. Was leaking through a breather/overflow underneath. I opened the cap and, just like you, gas gushed out.
Fortunately, I was in my carport and could wash everything right up.
