Default Intake

Started backfiring, ocationally about three weeks ago, took a took a 180 mile ride and did it a little bit more, on the way back it got so bad that w/in 40 miles I had to pull off. Checked plugs/wire connections. Checked battery connections, getting gas. Was told that it could be the manifold appliance gaskets, engine is a 127 ultima, if that matters, was told that if I take some starter fluid, spray it on the gaskets w/engine running, it should raise the rpm, well when I spray the front cylinder gasket it try's to stop the engine. Appliance gasket ? Thanks in advance.

The rubber boot "compliance fittings" ended back in the bay of Kehein butterfly carbs on the Evo engines.
I'd be looking at the ignition module, if the seals are intact.

If it's affecting the way it runs when you spray at the joint sounds like it's leaking there need to fix that seal

Compliance fitting is a generic fitting I used, I guess. Srayed around the front cylinder last night and it wanted to stall. Took the air cleaner and backing plate off but although I do a lot of my own work I must say I am a little intimitated by the thought of disconnecting the chocke and throttle cables. It is in a '90 Fl. Thanks

It will give you more room to tighten the nuts, you might as well take the
carb off and change the gasket between the carb and manifold while you're in there.

Removed Tank/carb, put in new gaskets, nothing obvious about gaskets, wondering if I should replace coil while I have tank off.
