Default 2005 Deuce help

My 2005 Deuce needs some serious help in low end grunt. Most riding
is local with a few long trips in excess of 1000 miles thrown in. Mods have been
V&H Straightshots , SE air intake and TTS. Cruising at 75 to 80 highway
I want to be able to pass easily and in town, quick is more important than
top end speed to me. I want to pull tree stumps if I have to.

Simple fix. Andrews TW 21 camshafts. For more torque add big bore kit and .030 head gasket. Spend more money and have head work with 98" kit.

Change gearing , I went to 3:37 in the primary, Rpm's a little high at 80 for some .Sure feels alot quicker.

deucegray's suggestion to go to 3:37 final drive (24/37 primary) is a pretty cost effective way to increase torque. You need to be OK with the increase in rpms, about 200, at highway cruise speeds though.

As others have suggested, a cam change would also help but will be more effective with an increase in displacement to 95"/98". If you stick with 88", the Andrews TW26 would be a better choice, IMHO, than the 21 for the "lighter" softail. If you increase to 95"/98", the Andrews 37 would work better.

If you really want to wake things up, change out the primary to 24/37 and bolt in come TW26 cams and watch your rear tire life get cut by 50%.

BTW, 2005 was the worst model year for cylinder heads. At some point, a BigBoys type street port would really help regardless of what else you do. If you can afford it, a street port job, boring cyinlders to 95", SE cast flat top pistons, Andrews 37 cams and a good tune will put you at about 100HP/105TQ. The lower gearing may not be necessary at that point but if you want more acceleration, that's the ticket. If funds are limited, the parts for the lower gearing will run about $300-$500 depending on whether you buy used or new. A cam only upgrade is about $350, if you do the work yourself and retain your stock pushrods. The full monte, 95", porting and cams will run about $1500, if you do the work yourself.

If low end is the goal, then an Andrews 26, and bore to 98", with some cylinder head attention.
Tuned, you'll be all in by 3600 rpms, with as much as 110 ft/lbs in that area.
