I recently had one of the local speed shops do some work on my 2009 Road King. I had them put on a Kuryakyn Hypercharger with trap door and Power Commander Five. Prior to taking it to the shop I put on some CycleShack slipons that I bought off a guy I worked with.
I'm having a problem with losing power when shifting when I'm getting on it pretty hard. At first it was from first to second. I would go high rev in first, get off the throttle, then shift into second and go back high ref. At this point, and intermittently, it would bog down and act like it totally lost power. I rev it up a couple times to get it going again. I’ve taken it back to the shop two times and they’ve re-dyno’ed but they tell me they cannot recreate the problem so they don’t know how to fix it. It only starts to happen after about 20 minutes of riding so the bike has to be at operating temperature (which they say is where it’s at when they dyno it). After this last time taking it back to the shop it does the same thing but now from second to third. And, it occasionally backfires when shifting.
I’m sick of taking it back and complaining about it. It’s been in there three times and they can’t find the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.
First thing I would do is remove the Power Commander and ride it to see if the symptoms continue. If they do continue, I would have the dealer check their installation of the Hypercharger. I've not installed one on a HD, but I did install one on a VTX 1800 and I recall there were some crankcase breather tubes and such that if not installed correctly, could cause issues.
Do let us know what you find out.

I would do as HHH suggests but go one farther and get rid of the Hypercharger in favor of the SE air filter/intake. You would be surprsed how many problems like yours are solved by tossing the Hypercharger for a better air intake.

Hey Jim. I looked at the Hypercharger last night and noticed the crankcase breather tube on the rear cylinder appeared crimped. It's a long S shape and it looks like when the installed it they did not bother to cut it down to fit. They just curved it a bunch which made it crimp. I cut about an inch and a half off and put it back on and now it's a smooth transition from the breather connection to the Hypercharger. It ran much better this morning (about a 15 mile ride to work) but we'll see over time. Most everyone says to get rid of it but its fairly new and not cheap. I'd rather try and get it running correctly first before dumping it. Thanks for the hint.
