Default Compression realeases malfunction?

Guys,

I have a '10 Street Glide that I had upgraded by the dealer w/the SE BB II kit, with cams and 103" build. The dealer suggested I install compression releases.

When its hot, I use the compression releases. I start the bike and the compression releases shut off...

When the outside temps are real hot, and I use the compression releases, usually one of the compression releases remains stuck and it does not release. As I ride, I can hear that the compression release has not shut and the bike loses power and weezes...

Will riding the bike with a compression release not shut, cause damage to the engine?

Looks like a trip to the dealer.

Tks/B

From what I have heard the manual compression releases will hang open from time to time. Someone will pop on here and give you cleaning tips. No big deal.

just give the throttle a quick whack and that should shut it.

the only damage to the engine will be a little stain from the fuel getting blown out the open release. if it hangs open for long, say more than a couple throttle whacks, get it replaced.

That works for me; mine on the front cylinder sticks regularly but a whack on the throttle shuts it. Carbon is building up and can be removed. Pull the compression releases and soak them in some Sea Foam for a day or so, clean them up and reinstall.

If you don't want to remove them, shoot some WD40 on them and let sit for a while. Should fix the problem.

Do you open the CRs first ... so the WD40 can circulate inside? Seems like it wouldn't do much good unless you actuated the CRs ....

Shoot em first with the WD40, then push them down and shoot'em again.

^^^ Tks guys, I'll try your advise.

How easy is it to remove the CRs? Is there a trick to getting them out? Do you pull, twist??? Do they just pop out?

Tks!

I might have misunderstood that you have manual compression releases ...

... like these ... that I am sporting in my heads ....

They are located next to (inboard) the spark plugs and you punch them down with your thumb before starting the motor ....

If you have the automatic compression releases, I think they are in another location ... in the top center of the head as I recall ...
