Evo Exhaust pipe temp
Can anyone with a mid 90's Evo and a laser temp gauge give me some temp readings of their exhaust pipe coming out of the head? I need the readings of the actual pipe not the heat shield or the head temp. Mine is reading 525 after a short period of idle. Others are telling me that this is too hot and could create engine damage. Could they be misunderstanding that I mean exhaust pipe, not head temps? I understand that some of the exhaust pipe wrapping and ceramic header coatings are good for 1200 to 1500 degrees. I would assume that 525 degrees is nothing for an Evolution engine exhaust pipe. The pipe is not blueing.

The temps increased somewhat after the carb was removed cleaned and a new set of plugs were introduced. I rechecked the plug gaps just to make sure they were within specs. I took the bike for a quick run which I didn,t do the first reading
