I have a 94 FXSTS but I am upgrading to 96+^ hand controls. I'm installing some 14" apes and need to order cables.
Is there anything special about S&S cables? Or will a 96+^ cable fit on my S&S. I found some sort of adapter that said it needs to be used with 96+^ cables on pre 96 S&S carbs.
I've got an S&S carb on my bike with stock Harley cables. I don't see any reason why you should need an adapter, just get yourself some longer cables and you should be fine.
The cables for slide and butterfly carbs are different in their travel lengths. The adapter you were looking at is for using stock cv cables on a butterfly carb that doesn't have the tall cable mount. http://www.vtwinmfg.com/webapp/wcs/s..._141736_141748
Here is a new in the package throttle cable adapter block for S&S E carburetors on Harley. This adaptor block will allow the use of 1996 and up throttle cable on an S & S made for the '95 and earlier cables.
I have an S&S on a 94 butvwill be using 96+ cables.
You don't have to have specific S&S cables. If you have cables that were meant to be used with a cv or slide type carb, then you will need the long cable bracket I linked to or perhaps the adapter you were looking at on e-bay. I had never seen one of those blocks before but it looks like it is for the same purpose. Maybe you should contact S&S, they are very helpful and it has been my experience that they won't try to sell you something that you don't really need plus they will be able to tell you which bracket you have now. Your carb may already be set up for the "new" style cables.
