I'm working on a 94 Softail Springer. I have a service manual but this bike has a S&S Shorty carb and was told the apes are 16" so the lengths and connections at the carb end are different from stock.
I was hoping that I could pull the old cable inner steel cable to replace and not have to replace the chrome braided sheath. Does this make sense?
Any tips from your experiences would be appreciated.
Unless it's some type of add on cover, I doubt it. New cables on conversions are best. Messing with old throttle cables is almost like modifying old brake lines.. Sort of a compromise on safety to you and others.

I just put some 16"s on mine.
'95 Heritage. It also has a S&S E.
I used +4" cables from Barnett and they fit fine.
Your stock cables won't work even if you replace (which I wouldn't try) the inner steel cable.
You have to remember one end of the outer has to fit into the bracket on the carb and the other screws into your switch housing.
