I want to change out my 8* injectors for the "newer" 25* injectors on my '06 TC88. The "Stealer" will not do it under the "Warranty Recall" that TMC issued. I can get the injectors pretty cheap and I looked at the Service Manual and it does not appear to be a difficult task.
Can i do this w/o pulling the Induction Module (just the injectors and fuel rail)? Service Manual says you don't have to pull the tank, just prop it up.
Any guidance form the more experienced out there?
I know I will have to change the Map/load on the ThunderMax.....
I did mine in under an hour, prop tank up, but you have to remove the upper stabilizer to access them.... Make sure you dont mix up the elect connectors front to rear!!!
Thanks. I think "book" is 1.1 hours so I know it can't be too bad. I'm not sure what you mean when you mentioned the "upper stabilizer". I'll check the Service Manual to see it that helps.
If you have nimble fingers you don't have to touch the tank. Take the horn off. take off the air filter, iac and the map sensor and the throttle bodyoff. use a box wrench and a torque bit to take the fuel rail off (disconnect the fuel line). The hardest part is getting the injector connectors hooked back up but it can be done. Took me about 30 min to change them.
I doubt my fingers are that "nimble" and I really don't want to have to "unbolt" the throttle body.
The new injectors are "in the mail" so I suspect, i will pull the tank early next week and do the "install" then. Hopefully, it will not take more than an hour or so.
Changed the injectors out day after Xmas. Removing the tank provides infinitely easier access and makes the change a snap. Used a hand vacuum pump to pull the fuel out of the tank and then just removed the "jumper hose" on the front to drain any remaining fuel while bike was on side stand.
Gives you a great opportunity to "clean" up the rocker covers, etc. while it is off as well.
The 25 degree injectors are vastly superior to the 8 degree when used with the TMax. Fuel mileage jumped immediately and the map is still being tuned. Idles and starts much better now as well.
Highly recommend the change for anyone who still has the 8's installed and is looking to do some Stage 1 mods.........
