Default How long should it take

I am having the dealer I bought my road king from install my thunder header 2 into 1 exhaust, fuel Pak and Arlen ness big sucker intake. They told me it would take 4hrs to install everything. Here's the break down: 2 hrs for the exhaust, 1 hr for the fuel Pak and 1 hr for the big sucker.

The only reason I am doing this is to have some sort of recourse if I have any warranty issues and they try to deny my claims. To me it seems a little excessive for the time frames quoted. I have changed an exhaust before and I think it would take me 2 hrs to do it considering I don't do this as a living. They have winter rates on labor right now($57/hr), so it's not horrible.

Do you guys think that time table is excessive?

Flat rate, which always benefits the shop. They'll do that job in an hour and move on to something else. $230 isn't too bad but it's more than I'd be willing to pay for such an easy job. Do it yourself, there are no legal warranty repercussions that the factory or dealer can hold against you. Use the extra $ to buy the wife something nice to make up for all money you're spending on the bike. OR..... just spend the extra $ on the bike.

I saved a lot of money by not having the stealer I mean dealer do it. Hell they wanted to charge me 2 hours for putting hard bags on....they only have 4 bolts and don't need any relocation hardware! I'd prove some locale HD certified shops just to see.

I don't see that happening. Maybe if I was doing it it would take 4 hours but not a trained mechanic. My buddy's a mechanic and he did my breather in like 20 minutes, and powercommander took maybe 10 minutes.

I went ahead and let them do it for $263 total. I'm storing my bike there for winter so at least it will be ready to go when I pick it up in April. I do have a stock exhaust and mufflers for sale now for $150 plus shipping also some B&E exhaust max performance 2 slip-ons for $75 plus shipping

Good luck selling the stock exhaust, not trying to be a jerk, but they aren't worth much at all. Best bet is someone rashes their stocker up and wants to return to same, but I don't think that happens that often.

You were right about the stock exhaust being worth next to nothing. Seems everybody replace with an aftermarket so I sold it to a co-worker for $125 with the B&E Mufflers.

Anyways, I went to the dealer to pay my bill and drop off the Arlen Ness intake. I had them fire it up and what a difference. It was almost borderline obnoxious loud in the shop. I can't wait to take it for a spin once winter is over. I had them install my ape hangers also and have yet to try them out except for sitting in my bike.

This is my first Harley and I gotta say comparing it to the honda and Yamaha bikes I owned previously is like comparing apples to oranges. I love my road king.

Thunderheaders are a serious pain in the a$$ to put on. Two hours by the time they take the old off and put that thing on is not excessive.

I could have saved some money if I would have just had them do the exhaust and ape hangers together. Sometimes I get buyer's remorse and think I'm spending too much on the bike. I could have done the work myself but I don't have a garage, so I would have had to do it outside and make time to do it. I have been working a lot OT. In the end I am happy with having them do it. Now I just get to enjoy the bike.

Cha-ching! If you have ever installed a Theader, they can be difficult. Four hours is not that bad, particularly at the winter rates.
