I have a 1980 Harley Davidson Sportster that has just been restored, but I am having problems with the S&S Super E Carb. Whenever I turn the petcock on gas POURS out of the overflow on the carb. I'm not sure what to do. This is the first restoration I've ever done and need a little help on fixing this problem.

the needle valve in the carb is not sealing, either foreign material on the seat or a damaged needle

Also check the float height...

Good advice above, the floats could be stuck as well. Did you go thru the carb?

The float was stuck on mine. Simply undid the bottom of the carb (no need to take it off the bike) blew some air in there and everything was fine when I put it back together. Took about 15 minutes.
