Default Engine Displacement?

I just bought an '86 Sportster engine. I know in that year they made the 883 and 1100. This engine (as I was told) has had some rebuild work done to it. What is the easiest way to know what the displacement is? Do I need to pull the heads and measure the bore? Seems like there would be an easier way. Thanks in advance for your help!

take 441.5 cc's of fluid and put it in one of the cilinders. If it fills to the bottom of the spark plug hole then its an 883.

Run your VIN through a VIN DECODER and it will tell you the model. You should be able to figure it out from there.

The heads on those 1100's flowed very good, if in fact it is.
Just trivia in regards to that.

All the numbers ideas are great, but if it has been bored and not a kit, then we still don't know. But, soft 09 had an idea. I should be able to take 600cc of fluid + / - x 2 and figure this out. Thanks all!
