Default SE II Air Filter

Hey everyone! Just got the Stage 1 on my 2005 Sportster last week and I'm very happy with the results, but I'm wondering about the air filter because I hear that they get holes in them and aren't a very good filter, has anyone else had any experience with the SE II air filter and if so what should I do to protect my engine? I really like the ham can look so I want to keep that but are there any other filters that I can swap out if I run into any problems??? Also, how often do these filters need to be replaced under normal conditions, I don't have a clue and just want to be safe. Thanks.

If you got the Stage 1 Screamin Eagle Aircleaner, it should have K&N air filter in it. They are washable, then you just re-oil them. I had one on a 95 Roadking for 60,000 miles with no problems.

Regards,

Bill

You could swap the element for the K&N so you shouldn't run into a problem. The one that comes apart is the blue banded one.

I had an 04 1200r with the paper SE AC. Ended up full of holes in a few thousand miles.

As far as I know no one make a K&N type replacement for the 04/05 SE AC.

If you know of one please let me know and I will pass it on to the guys at the XLForum.

I contacted K&N on a replacement filter for my Ultra after my Stage 1 kit with SE Air kit. I included K&N's message in the post, they do not make a replacement at this time.

Here's the info I finally got back from K&N on the filter... Looks like "The Big Sucker" may be an option now
Hello,

Thank you for your interest in K&N products. Unfortunately we do not at this time offer a replacement filter for the paper filter now used by Harley.

Thank you,

Subject: Harley-Davidson Filter replacement???

Hi,

I own a 2005 FLHTCU/I with a Harley Stage 1 kit. The kit came with a HD paper air filter PN 29442-99C, I'd like to replace this filter with a K&N filter but can not find one on your web site.

Do you have a part number to replace this filter?

Thanks,

Joe

I talked to a dealer a few weeks ago and he told me that K&N was making the SEII filters, an oiless type that all you have to do is wash. Well I didn't really believe what he said so I went out and ordered a Hurricane Flow filter instead, they use the K&N oiled filter.

Just for kicks, get in touch with K&N and ask if they make the blue banded one

****
Forget it, I just called (800) 858-3333 They said that they DO NOT manufacture the blue banded one and ALL their filters are the oiled type.

Here's the part number for the HD (K&N) replacement filter for the stage 1 upgrade PN 29442-99A . This is the oil coated K&N, NOT the blue one.

It needs a cleaner to service it PN 99883-88T
and an oiling with PN 99332-88T
