Fast idle at startup

Default Fast idle at startup
Why does my 06 twin cam 88 run at high idle once started? It runs fast for several minutes. Then I usually have to ride a block or two before it goes to a normal idle and is fine. Also it only has to be turned off 20 - 30 minutes and it will start up the same way. I dont buy the cold natured theory. Is there anything that can be done to fix this ? A big thanks

It runs fast to warm up! Back in the days when everything had carbs and manual controls, we had to set the choke so it ran fast for a short while. If you are concerned, have a dealer or indy check it over for you.

That is the way fuel injection works. It is completely normal. If you had a carb it would be different.

Your IAC might be sticking. Clean it out with throttle body or car cleaner.

I dont think there is anything wrong I just bought a 2012 FXDC and it does it all the time. Before that I had a 2009 vulcan 900c and it would do the same thing. It has to do with the fuel injection.

Not so much the fact it has FI it has to do with warming the O2 sensors to get them working faster. It is part of the program in the ECM If you have a SERT SE Race tuner or a TTS you can adjust that it works from the input of the head temp sensor.

Yes I am aware that is common at start. I have had many bikes. But it seems to take longer than what I think it should. And seems to be taking longer. Just looking for a solution that I could do myself. I forgot to mention after talking to someone. My bike has a power commander on it. And he seems to think that may be the problem. Says he dont trust them. So think I may unhook it temporarily to see if that has anything to do with it. Anyone had issues with them?

Went through the same thing a month ago. Went thru all the sensors,etc.. with no fix.

It turned out to be a broken throttle shaft. The shaft was broken a the screw closest the TPS.
Replaced the TB and it runs better than new.
