I have done my reading and now have a question. 05 stock ulta classic. Sooner or later want stage one for some added power as well as the true sound of Harley. I read in lots of articles about the Stage one.. Can the average person get thru doing the entire Stage one upgrade himself and get all the remap done and anything else required without the Stealers help or what. I read that if ya change pipes and air filter ya need to remap EFI as it will run to lean. Assuming a person can get the pipes on, change air cleaner over whats involved to get the rest set up..What aside from pipes and air cleaner will I need finish things up and is it worth the hassle and extra cost for some set up like Power Commander as is this what a person uses to remap..Any help out there in Calgary Alberta Canada that knows whats up..Also what about HD Warranty..Voids it or not..Even if not done at the shop.??
Howdy, I'm not much on the technical stuff, but I have heard that a person with computer skills can do some of their own work on the EFI but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else with more knowledge about this will be able to help you. Because of my lack of computer skills, I just had the dealer do it and if was figured in with the load. If you are able to do your own work, I would say go for it and it will help you learn a little more about your bike.
Stage 1 is a piece of cake. If you are handy with tools and can read directions, you'll knock it off in no time. As far as the download, you can use a TFI to take care of the mixture, only difference is that you will still have the 5800 rpm limit in stead of the 6200 limit in the download, which should not be a problem on your bike with stock cams/heads, you will not even see it , there is little use for the 400 rpm's given by that download as you only spin the motor over without much useable torque up there. Again read the directions and it is no problem. Looks scarey but when you get it done, you'll look back and laugh at this thread.
You'll need a stage 1 kit, mufflers of choice, tfi/dfo or your choice of a unit that will richen things up for you.
