I have an 06 ultra bone stock and am wanting to do the big bore upgrade, I have two years left on extended warranty. Harley wants $3000 to do upgrade which tuning and tundra included, but my indy says 1300 he can do it. Parts and all. Will letting the indy do the work void my warranty or is it best to let the dealer do the work in case of issues it is covered by warranty. The parts will be all Harley . Thank for any help on this matter, want more power
Not knowing your dealer I can't say for sure but would bet six pack that if you let the indy do the work, the dealer will find a way to dodge the warranty; you are between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
If I were you I would try to negotiate a better deal with the dealer making sure that the warranty remains intact; the dealer owes you an explanation for why there is a $1500 difference in price for the same scope of work. Labor rate will be part of it and if the indy buys from a discount H-D dealer and your dealer is selling you parts at retail, that would explain it more. However, if the negotiations don't pan out, sell the warranty back to the dealer and let the indy do the work. Just know you will be burning a bridge.
The outcome will depend on whether your dealer values you as a customer and how willing you are to play chicken with the remaining two years of warranty.
Even if you have the dealer do the work I would get confirmation before hand that work will not void the warranty. I've seen too many posts from people that had work done by HD dealers and the dealer still said warranty was void. Some even on brand new bikes that had the work done before the purchaser even took the bike off the dealer floor.
Wow when I asked he said as long as I bought se parts that was emissions legal it wouldn't void the warranty. For instance the race tuned voided the warranty but the cheaper be turner doesnt.the upgrade to 95 is good as long as I get an emissions legal cam.
I suggest you spend more time finding out what your dealer and indy are quoting for. Your dealer may be quoting say to supply and fit a tuner plus time on the dyno, but your indy isn't or will charge extra. Make sure you know what each quote covers and be clear in your mind about any differences. They may be miles apart in what they have quoted for!
