Prior to tearing down my motor, I was running stock heads and compression. EV-27 cam, mikuni 42 carb, SE ignition and Samson Street Sweeper pipes with torque cones. Started puffing smoke from the rear cylinder so decided to tear down.
Getting ready to put her back together.
Went with SE heads and SE 10.5.1 forged pistons.
I planned on still using the EV-27 cam. A friend offered a S&S 600 cam that he had changed out and said it would wake up the bike with it installed. I'm tthinking it's too big of a cam for what I'm doing to the motor.
I want the bike to be reliable but at the same time to get up and move when I need it to.
Question:
Will the EV-27 be a good match with the heads and pistons? Any thoughts would be appreciated
The 27 cam is a great cam for that, BUT, that compression is waaaaaay over the top.
10.0 is where you'd want to sign off.
The .600 is a very good cam in 113", and 117" engines at just about 10.7.
Is this a touring machine?
Reason I ask is, don't want to suggest a cam that would be used in a Dyna.
