Default Bag o'nickles?

Mornin! all!
Ok, I have a 2000 Road King Classic with 15k on the odometer. I pull out for a little cruise saturday. About 3 miles into it I hear what sounds like a nickle bouncing around in my motor. Literally you could hear it so I deter from my route and slow my speed. As I'm listening to see if I can pinpoint where it is coming from whatever was coming loose....did. It got a lot worse and I started loosing power in one cyclinder. I shut it down at that point to prevent any further damage. Any ideas on what could have happened? My first thought was a broken valve spring or maybe a ring. Thanks for your ideas!

Have you ever replaced the chain tensioners, inner cam bearings or the outer cam bearings?

No I haven't. I bought it with 9000 miles on it. I rode it to Sturgis so now it has around 15,000 on it so no big replacements....till now it seems.

What DJL said above. My '99 had a inner cam bearing go at 10K. It was a problem the early Twin Cam motors had. It was a factory covered repair for a while but that ship has sailed.

It's a serious issue get it looked at.

If you need work in the cam chest I can not erge you strong enough to upgrade the cam tensioners to either the HD Screamin Eagle Hydraulic Cam Tensioner upgrade or to gear driven cams. To make it a little less painful put in some new cams (I HUGELY suggest the Andrews 21 cams for a 88" motor) the bike will perform so much better. My total cost for the Hydraulic upgrade and new cams plus labor at my indy was $1,400. Ouch I know. But you will have a more reliable and better performing bike.
