Default removing baffles

I would like to know if the mufflers need to be removed to take the baffles out? I got a 2nd set of stock pipes and I'm going to remove the baffles from one set either the ones on the bike or the loose set which is the easiest. I love the tappered look of the stock mufflers and if I don't like the sound I can put the one with baffles back on. Thanks for the input

I would like to do the same on my 2007 Street Bob, but I'm a little afraid to try it. I hope you get some advice on this manner.

UmpOne-Get a set of slipon mufflers that look like the orginals.

TEK 679- If you want to modify, do it to the pipes that are not mounted. Much easier.

I can understand wanting to retain the stock look. There are vendors out there that can modify your stock mufflers and do a much more professional looking job, and the service is not that expensive. I just bought a set of 07 mufflers from a guy on ebay for my 2000 Rk that were slightly modified (he calls it his stage 2). Better sound, stock look, still have the original muflers if I need them.

TEK 679,

I had to pull the SE-II slip-ons off my bike to get the baffles out. The baffle is wedged in pretty tight. I had to push a wood stake into the baffle and tap it with a hammer, then it came right out. Most stock baffles probably fit pretty snug, especially if the bike has more than a few miles on it.

I put in the Thunder Monster baffles and am very happy with them. Much better than the pipes without baffles.

You can buy rush slip ons and change the baffels with the pipes on the bike. There's a built in handle to pull them out.

F117EWO, Did you need to drill anything out? and what was the best way to hold the muffler so as not to damage them?

How many baffles are you wanting to remove?

Removing the rear on my bagger was easy.
1 1/8" hole saw on an extension.
Took about 2-3 minutes per side with the slipons still mounted on the bike.

I found that removing the one rear baffle sounds good. (3baffles in each slipon)

If they are stock slip-ons the baffles are welded in. I had the same situation as you and I just took an 1 1/8" hole-saw and drilled the plugs out of them before I put them on the bike. Sounds pretty loud compared to the louvered (not loud enough)baffle pipes I had. I'm thinking about installing some copperpipe reducers or boltsto baffle the sound a little and get some back pressure. This should be agreeable with the richer jetting already inmy carb, I hope. I did this swap in January so I haven't had good weather to roadtest yet. Anyone else been down this road?? Tell us if you were happy with the results or not.
I'll probably have about $30 invested in a set of like new slip-ons when I'm done modifying them.
