I have tired to find a concrete answer to this with no luck. I have called a dealer and the factory. No concrete answer. So here it is: If, for whatever reason, you decide to keep the cat in your bike, how long will it last? The cats in cars have about a 100k life. So what is the life of a cat in a bike? Any thoughts? Dealer had no idea, factory said it depends on lots of stuff (translation we havent thought that far ahead). Hopefully there is an informed person out there with the answer.
Most car owners leave their car stock, whereas Harley owners can't keep their sticky fingers off their bikes! We get posts from 'owners' wanting to modify a bike they have only just ordered and delivery is still months away FFS. I sympathise with the factory.
I can't see why a bike cat, everything left as it came out of the factory, shouldn't last as long as a car's cat. Why do you ask? Why does it matter.....
Took the cat out of my 2010 Ultra (96) and could not get it to run right, even with a rema. If the cams are changed that might do it but I am not going there. Put the cat back, big sucker and a remap and all is well. Runs cooler and gets about 7 mile more to the gallon plus more power. It was just a questtion of of interest. And since no one really knows the answer that made me want to know more. I am inclined to agree with you on the time it will last. The bike cat is different than a car"s and after looking at one their construction is very simple. Not much to go wrong with one.
if the engine is in top running condition, the cat will last longer than 100k (warranted till 80K)...excessive oil blowby, burning coolant or over fueling are primary cat killers (causes overheating and leads to thermal breakdown of substrate)

Non need to worry about coolant in these... I simply had mine removed and had the piped ceramic coated in/out. Runs just as shitty as before, but much cooler in traffic.
the biggest failure of catalytic converters is engine misfires. the raw fuel collects inside and causes them to over heat ruining the catalyst .and will set a code for low efficacy.
