Default Cams installation

Today I dropped the bike to a local shop to instal the 254e cams (I have a 2011 road glide) and it was my understanding that to install the cams you need to pull the heads too (to adjust the push roods?). When I bought the cams they shows other parts that you need with it and they shows head gasket and also another shop told me that you need to do that too. But when I dropped the motorcycles today the mechanic said that it is not need it. I was going to put .30" gasket to increase a little bit the compression.
We agreed to install them for $500 (I bought the cams) but I thought as I said he was going to change the head gasket too.
What's the right way to install them and is $500 a fair price?

You don't need to take the heads off so it's between you and them on what was actually agreed to, if fitting the head gasket was agreed to by both parties then yes the heads will obviously have to come off. Unless you had a quote in writing stating the work to be done its your word against theirs and I know who will win that one !

I think 500 is a little on the high side.....Maybe 300.......tell them you want the head gaskets done that it was agreed upon along with the price......now if they are re-tuning the bike 500 is a fair price, there is quite a bit more work pulling the heads.

no need to pull the heads,if your going to re-use the stock p/rods the rocker supports & rocker arms need to be removed.if adjustable "time saver" p/rods will be used, just cut the stock ones with bolt cutters
