Default 103 upgrade hard starting

I have a 2008 Roadking that I had bored out to a 103" motor and SE255 cams installed by my dealer about a year ago. I'm using a SERT and have had it dyno tuned. I've been very happy with the performance of this setup, but on very hot days, every once in a while, it would "kick back" on startup. It actually was so rare that this happened, that I never let it concern me.
Now, all of a sudden, it does it every time I start the bike after the engine has warmed up. It has never happened when the bike has been sitting overnight, or the engine is cold.
I know now that I should have had compression releases installed during the upgrade (service tech insisted that they weren't needed - HA!) but why now all of a sudden has it become a major problem? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm leaning toward the starter getting weak. Would a high torque starter be a wise investment? Any advice?

You need the CRs. The higher compression is pulling the battery down. Do you keep the battery on a tender? I would bet a six pack that if you load test the battery, it will show weakness.

103 Builds need compression releases , any build that did your work and did not explain that would worry me. I would be worried about the work they did.
keep a Real good battery in it and keep it on tender when not used you may get by.

I have a couple spark plug adaptors with built in CR's uses a custom smaller diameter plug that I never installed on my old bike. they look like this, wonder if they make them for twinkies?: http://www.choppersurplus.com/np/ele...ssrelease.html

Why is it "kicking back" now?
Without a shadow of doubt, you now have carbon built up on the pistons and in the combustion chamber, creating even more compression, than when it was a fresh powerplant.
I would suspect that you would be a bit surprised at the cold cranking compression of that combination.
Compression releases are in order.
FWIW, those 255 "school bus" cams crank at 205-207 psi, in a 110"er.............and those are only 9.2 cr, vs the 9.6 cr that an 85cc chambered, 103" carrys.
