Was riding and noticed a nasty rattle comin from my exhaust...Got off and left the bike idling, and saw the baffle in the lower pipe was spinning and jumping about, but not actually coming out of the pipe at all.
My question is: Can I take a mallet and a metal rod, and knock that baffle further into the exhaust, to kind of wedge it in there and stop the rattle or do I have to take the baffle out completely?
Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. I can't help thinking that hitting it isn't going to solve anything! It's either broken or come adrift, perhaps because of a lost screw or rivet. What brand is the muffler? Go to the manufacturer's website and see what you can learn about the baffle and if it is replaceable. We can help you if we have more info!
Agreed, look for evidence of wht used to hold it in place. Look on the bottom and back sides for a hole through the outer muffler shell. Then look for a mating hole in the baffle. If you find this put a screw or rivet in it, if not, look for the spot weld that broke. If you find that get someone to weld it back for you.
