is a tune / tuner required?

If I buy an exhaust and an intake, am I required to do get a tuner too? Will it damage the engine if i dont?

I like Harleys too! Owned 'em for 40 years. To partly answer your question read the first few posts in this Sticky on the subject. You need a tuner for two reasons: to compensate for the changes you mention; to compensate for the low fuel tune imposed by EPA regulations. Your bike should be a much improved ride with a well set up tuner!

If you want to do it right, get a tuner. You'll appreciate the difference in performance and ridability a tuner brings to the equation.
