As stated in previous responses, 87 octane is all that’s needed in these low compression motors. I’d change that out first.
Since it’s idling fine, your problem may just be your high speed adjustment. If you’re running an M88 Linkert (commonly used on 45s), with a fixed high speed jet, check to make sure you’ve got a #1 jet installed, remove the plug on the high speed side and run the needle all the way down and reinstall the plug. If the carburetor has an adjustable high speed needle, check your manual for the starting point setting - maybe 2 1/2 - 3 turns out. I like to run down the road about 35 mph turning the needle in slowly one notch at a time til it runs smoothly.
