32E generator problems > 36 VLD
2 years ago i rebuild my 32E generator and convert it to 12 volts with the Samwel kit. (new 12v coils, new 12v armature and the V tronic regulator)
After a year there was a little short in the circuit ( i removed the rear wheel for inspection and a wire gets crushes between the fender... stupid..) so the generator and regulator burning out.
No smoke or something, on i ride the bike stops and will never start, battery empty and no charging.
Replaced all the parts , new armature, new coils, new regulator, cost me a lot of money.
To prevent this happening again i placed some fuses in the system, 1 fuse at the + at the battery (30a) and some fuses in the wiring to the lights. I want the bike much as original looking but i can live with some small fuses under the dash and in the battery box.
So far so good, last week the same problem again ! no charging.
Take the generator apart and aigain the armature burnt up.
Reason ? i dont know, all fuses are ok.
how can this happen ?
I can order new parts again but cost me a lot of money and it looks like its not a durable system.
What is the most durable option to convert a 32E to 12 volts and will run trouble free ?
in my shop we made a harley pulley from a gear machines down and pressed in a bored out 2 1/2 inch pulley to match the two
you must check the out load in amps - originally you had a 3rd Brush for amp rate we set. Them as low as possible as most only day ride the machine
electronic regulators need to be low out put as well - you will need help in making that happen
